MRS GT-Racing in the fight for the title
Porsche Carrera-Cup Germany; Nürburgring
After an one-month summer break the races 13 and 14 of the German Porsche Carrera Cup stood on the plan to be hold on the short version of the Nürburgring at the last weekend. MRS driver Christian Engelhart traveled as second in the championship to the Eifel. He had a gap of only 24 points to the leader Sven Müller (GER/ Konrad Motorsport) and wanted to shorten this residue clearly. At his side Dylan Pereira from Luxembourg, who replaced the Peruvian driver Ricardo Flores and should collect some more necessary points it took to defend the third rank for MRS GT-Racing in the team standings. For Pereira the team and also the car are not a new matter, he started already at the 24 Hours of Dubai on a 991 GT3 Cup for the MRS team. In the current season he is also a driver of the Porsche MOBIL1 Supercup for another team.
"We have to give everything at the Nürburgring and need to bring a full attack in at the last races in addition! In Hockenheim the MRS team and I are in any case always capable of winning.", announced Engelhart optimistic. In qualifying Christian initially secured grid positions three and four, but he benefited from a penalty which brought Müller at the end of the starting field. Due to underweight of his Porsche Müller had to start from the back of the grid in both races. In the consequence Christian moved forward one place for each run. Also Engelhart`s teammate Pereira got a good lap and maneuvered his Cup Porsche for both runs on the ninth grid position.
After a successful start to the race on Saturday Engelhart managed to stay a few laps directly behind the leading car which was driven by Michael Ammermüller (GER/ KÜS Team75 Bernhard), but a little later he had to let him go and defend his position against his persecutor Nicholas Yelloly (GB / Team German Post Project 1). He managed to remain souvereign in a duel and finished the race in second place. Thus, he not only got a trophy on the podium, but also collect valuable points. Dylan Pereira ended after a small driving mistake only on rank 14. Championship leader Sven Müller finished on the eighth place and lost 10 points to Christian Engelhart.
Even the Sunday race was initially easily. Nick Foster (AUS/ Konrad Motorsport) who had started on new tires succeeded to subdue Engelhart in the fifth lap. In the further course Engelhart then had a remarkable fight with Sven Müller and crossed the checkered flag up on a fifth place. Müller lost as a further two points. Dylan Pereira also gave up an interesting duel with Philip Morin (SWE/ Lechner Racing Huber) and drove finally as a good tenth over the finish line.
For spectators and fans it comes to the showdown at Hockenheimring: the residue between Müller and Engelhart are just 12 points, so the championship decision is moved to the PCCD season-finale from 14th-16th October in the Motodrom of Hockenheim.
Karsten Molitor: "It was a good weekend, where we could catch 12 points for us. If others make mistakes, then we have to be there and take our chances, that we have done succeessfully. Although we had expected a little more on Sunday, in the small field it is really difficult. We want to give everything which is possible in Hockenheim to take our last chance. On our „home track“ we are pretty well sorted! Our last championship win is already a few years back, we want to earn more than the runner-up last year."
